“Celebrating Belfast’s industrial heritage
in the city’s landmark building”
Within the ‘Bobbin’ coffee shop in the Grade A listed Belfast City Hall, we developed an exhibition exploring the city’s industrial heyday and encouraging a sense of civic pride today.
We took care to strike the right balance of ambience, engaging design, spatial composition and accessibility between the busy coffee shop and the interpretive panels and displays.
A high-level timeline provided a graphic intervention viewable from anywhere in the coffee shop. Curved walls and feature corner panels maximised the use of available space, while screens featuring images and footage were integrated within the displays.
Our interpretation linked Belfast’s past achievements and innovations with a celebration of the city and its inhabitants today, ensuring it appealed to both locals and international visitors.
Mindful of the busy café environment, Tandem carefully designed the interpretive experience to strike the right balance of ambience, engaging design, spatial composition and accessibility so all visitors could engage with the displays as they wished.
