Set on the beautiful coastline of Newcastle, Co. Down, the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa boasts lavish facilities and over 100 hundred years of illustrious history. Working closely with the client, we developed an exhibition room which reflected its rich heritage, from the hotel’s construction as a luxury railway hotel to its development as one of the premier spa resorts in Ireland.
The story is told through engaging interpretive graphics, audio-visual presentations and entertaining interactive elements. Artefact displays include a visitors’ book signed by Charlie Chaplin, the original Bill of Quantities from the hotel’s construction, historic menus and branded crockery from through the ages.
Guests and visitors can transport themselves to the golden era of railway travel by flicking through books of vintage postcards, dressing up in period costume and looking through a stereoscopic viewer. They can also write about their own memories of the hotel in a specially commissioned visitors book.
Our relationship with the hotel is ongoing, and future plans include capturing and showcasing oral history reminiscences of guests and staff to share their memories of the hotel throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.
With engaging graphic displays, vintage footage and an entertaining selection of interactive elements, Tandem brought over a century of the hotel’s history to life.
