Where today’s creative writers are inspired by
the legacy of one of Ireland’s greatest poets
The Seamus Heaney Centre is a beacon for creative exploration for today’s writers, poets and artists,
as well as a tribute to one of Ireland’s literary greats.
Situated in a Grade II-listed building at Queen’s University Belfast, the centre hosts a public exhibition area which displays the university’s Seamus Heaney archive, as well as venues, teaching and meeting spaces, a library and more places for students and teaching staff to collaborate.
Our exhibition sensitively showcased the building’s heritage, while providing an engaging place for students, visitors, fellows and staff to discover the stories of Seamus Heaney at Queen’s as student, teacher and fledgling poet. Personal objects including early publications from the Heaney archive are on display, as well as the university’s comprehensive AV collection of the poet talking about his own work and interests.
A conversation ‘nook’ encourages people to linger and there
is dedicated space for reading Heaney and an ever-evolving selection of contemporary writers with links to the centre.
Championing and inspiring today’s writers and creatives
was an essential focus for the interpretation, as well as signposting to Belfast’s rich literary heritage and exciting contemporary scene. The Seamus Heaney Centre celebrates the legacy of the poet while continuing to engage and inspire the next generation.
