Florence Court Estate

The National Trust

Florence Court is one of the finest historic examples of a sustainable Irish estate.

Florence Court is a stunning 18th-century house and estate in Fermanagh, now managed by the National Trust.

Tandem undertook the design, fabrication and installation of new interpretation to guide visitors through the wealth of experiences on offer. Our interpretation works with a consistent design and brand identity to provide insight into the self-sustaining nature of the estate, demonstrating how various components worked together holistically.

The visitor centre provides a warm welcome, with exhibition panels telling the story of the estate's owners, the Cole family of Enniskillen, and their employees. We created a visually rich display adhering to National Trust design principles. This includes a graphic timeline tracing the history of Florence Court from its 18th-century origins to the National Trust's current role in the estate's preservation, and updatable panels showcasing current events on site.

New orientation and interpretation lecterns and audio posts in the walled garden enhance this integral part of the estate, along with the restoration of the glasshouses. Panels at the forge, carpenter's workshop, drying shed, hydraulic ram, ice house, and sawmill illuminate the stories of these key industrial heritage locations. Tandem also created a family-friendly Activity Trail that encourages engagement across the estate.

Our interpretation holistically emphasises the house and gardens' long-term sustainability, together with the National Trust's ongoing efforts to preserve the essence of this great Irish estate.
