National Famine Museum at Strokestown Park
Successful funding bid
In 2018 we worked with the Irish Heritage Trust and Séan Harrington Architects to create a new vision for the redevelopment of the National Famine Museum at Strokestown Park as well as a visitor centre and café. We are delighted that Fáilte Ireland has just announced they will support the project with a €3.9 million grant.
Strokestown is dripping with enthralling and emotive stories that we can’t wait to share anew: not least the desperation of the Cloonahee men who petitioned their landlord to save their families from starvation, the unsolved mystery of the Famine murder of Strokestown Park’s landlord, and the remarkable survival of Strokestown House and its contents; an unrivalled archive that provides a unique window into the Famine years in Co. Roscommon.
The Visitor Experience Plan and Interpretation Plan pave the way for Strokestown Park to take its rightful place as a signature visitor experience in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, and to commemorate and reflect upon the history of the Great Famine through the remarkable stories of the people of Strokestown.
