Dublin Discovery Trails
The individual trails guide visitors along a specific, themed route through the city.
The Dublin Discovery Trail was developed to be a suite of walking trails which link to the Dubline, a concept previously developed by Fáilte Ireland as the core visitor orientation route in Dublin City Centre.
Tandem were contracted in 2013 by Fáilte Ireland initially to provide interpretation design and content for two major new self-guided heritage trails based around the interpretive plan for the Dublin Independence Trails.
Using evidence from consumer research and testing - including the perceived optimum duration for the experience - we were able to refine the initial concept and fully develop the narrative structure.
As such the Dublin Discovery Trails were realised, for which we developed four self-guided trails:
- Rebellion – Six days that shook Dublin
- Empire – A tale of two cities
- Story of Dublin – Through streets broad & narrow
- Echoes of War – A stroll through historic Kilmainham.
Working with Fáilte Ireland we defined the branding and marketing proposition for Dublin Discovery Trails. We then developed each walking trail with a clear theme and focus. These individual trails guide visitors along a specific, themed route through the city – connecting them to some of the less visited and less obvious corners of Dublin.
We scoped and wireframed thematic content for each trail, produced content and design for both a suite of maps and 36-page booklet, and worked with the client to finalise the routes for the trail.
Using evidence from consumer research and testing we were able to refine the initial concept and fully develop the narrative structure.
The stories and designs were developed with a wide range of media in mind. So for each trail we provided written text and images which could later be developed into content and an audio script for the downloadable app.
