The Burren Centre

Visitor Experience

The Burren Centre, Kilfenora

Burren Centre Management Committee

A gateway experience to a landscape thriving with life, culture and community.

The Burren in County Clare is a landscape of contrasts, from its grey lunar-like limestone landscape to the bright colours of the Burren flowers, visible through the limestone cracks.

Visitors quickly realise that the seemingly ‘barren’ region is in fact a landscape thriving with life, culture and community.

Tandem completed an initial interpretation strategy for The Burren Centre and were commissioned to see the project through to delivery.

Tandem’s mission for this project was to re-establish the Centre as a compelling tourist attraction for Kilfenora that would increase footfall in the wider area, and benefit the community.

Working closely with the team at the Burren Centre and the local community, we reimagined an exhibition that told a people-centred story of the Burren, relating how humans have worked alongside, and with, this unique natural landscape.

Tandem helped establish Kilfenora as a vibrant tourist destination, and as a ‘gateway’ destination at the very heart of the Burren region with much to offer the visitor in their adventure.

Our visitor experience revealed a multi-layered picture of the Burren and its heritage, including its landscape, biodiversity, community, culture and the rich music traditions of Kilfenora Village.
